Getting started with MangoDisk

Learn how to scan a location, review the results, and safely free up disk space with MangoDisk

Updated July 29, 2026

MangoDisk helps you understand what is using your storage before you remove anything. This guide covers the basic workflow used throughout the app.

Choose what you want to review

Open MangoDisk and select a task from the sidebar:

  • Deep cleanup finds caches, temporary files, and application leftovers.
  • Large files shows the biggest files in a folder.
  • Duplicate files groups identical copies.
  • App uninstall removes an app together with related files.
  • Disk space analysis shows how storage is distributed across folders.

If you are unsure where to begin, start with Deep cleanup.

Run a scan

Choose the disk or folder you want to inspect, then start the scan. Larger disks and folders can take longer to finish.

You can continue using your computer while MangoDisk scans. Avoid moving a large number of files until the scan is complete, because their locations may change.

Review the results

MangoDisk shows names, locations, sizes, and relevant warnings before cleanup. Open unfamiliar items in Finder or File Explorer and confirm that you no longer need them.

For personal documents, photos, project files, and downloads, keep a backup before deleting anything important.

Confirm cleanup

Select only the items you understand, then confirm the cleanup. Some items may be moved to the system trash, while others may be removed directly when the operating system requires it.

After cleanup, use Cleanup history to review what MangoDisk handled.
