Duplicate file cleanup

Review identical files as groups and remove extra copies without losing the version you want to keep

Updated July 29, 2026

Duplicate file cleanup groups files with matching content. This makes it easier to remove unnecessary copies while preserving one useful version.

Choose folders to scan

Add one or more folders where duplicates are likely to appear, such as Downloads, Documents, or a photo import folder.

Avoid scanning system folders unless you understand their contents. Duplicate files used by different applications can be stored intentionally.

Review each group

Every group shows the matching files, their locations, and the space that can be recovered. File names may differ even when the content is identical.

Use the folder button to see a file in context. Keep the copy in the most appropriate location and select only the extras.

Use automatic selection carefully

Automatic selection can speed up large reviews, but you should still inspect important documents and media. MangoDisk does not decide which folder is most meaningful to you.

Before deletion, confirm that every group retains at least one copy.
