Duplicate File Cleanup

Find duplicate files by content with MangoDisk, keep one copy, and permanently delete the extra copies you confirm

Updated 2026/08/04

Duplicate File Cleanup compares file contents and groups identical files together. Files can appear in the same group even when their names differ.

Choose a scan scope

Select one local disk or folder to scan. Downloads, Documents, photo import folders, and backups are common places for duplicate files.

Avoid scanning system folders unless you understand their contents. Different apps may intentionally keep identical files and can stop working if one is removed.

Review duplicate groups

Each group shows the number of copies, size of each file, and the maximum space you can reclaim. Expand a group to compare locations and open any file in the system file manager.

You can also filter groups by video, audio, image, document, archive, installer, and other file types. Start with content you can identify easily.

Use Smart Select

Smart Select follows the “file to keep” preference, keeps one file in each group, and selects the other copies. Select it again to clear the selection, or adjust any file manually.

MangoDisk keeps at least one file in every group, but it cannot know which folder matters most to you. Review documents, photos, and project files carefully.

Permanently delete copies

The footer shows the selected copy count and estimated space to free. Confirming the action deletes the selected copies permanently without moving them to the system Trash or Recycle Bin.

Files that changed or became unavailable after the scan are skipped. Back up important files before deletion.
